Scraps to sculpture: Third annual weld-off to be held at Helena High

Scraps to sculpture: Third annual weld-off to be held at Helena High

Welding instructors Cindy Galbavy and Jim Weber developed the
competition several years ago based on the television show “Junkyard
Wars.” Students pick choice pieces from a trailer full of scrap metal
donated by Pacific Steel & Recycling, then go to work welding any
type of futuristic sculpture before each is judged by local welders and
artists.

The sculptures must show signs of the four most common
welds: gas metal arc welding, tungsten inert gas welding, arc welding
and oxy acetylene welding.

What a great idea
